THOMAS THE APOSTLE CEMETERY ADJACENT TO THE CHURCH Robert Charles Walker Born July 20, 1943 in Paterson, New Jersey Died June 21, 2022 Robert Walker grew up at his home in Paterson, New Jersey with his mother and stepfather. His mother taught him to play the piano and his father shared his love of baseball as well as a passion for life. After his parents and stepfather passed away in April of 1989, he moved to Basile Apartments, a program of Catholic Charities, Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD). In 1992, he moved to Alexander House in Oak Ridge. It was a perfect fit and Robert was very happy there. A few years ago, Alexander House became Walsh House and he made the move to the new home and neighborhood in Succasunna, New Jersey with excitement and a continued enthusiasm for life. Robert volunteered at the Dover Christian Nursing Home, where he played the piano and hosted sing-alongs for the residents. He was welcomed by everyone there and he developed friendships with the staff and residents alike. Robert also worked on the cleaning crew at DPD’s Gruenert Center and enjoyed it very much. Gruenert Center staff and clients have always been more like family than co-workers to Robert. Robert was a true gentleman, generous, dignified and polite. He had many friends and most of these friends became family. He loved to play music and had a passion for it. He had a God given talent and a beautiful gift for music that he cherished and shared all of his life. He would play his friends’ favorite songs every morning! Robert was a very spiritual person. When asked if he ever got lonely, he would say, "No, I'm never lonely because Jesus is always by my side." He enjoyed church services and was always thankful for the people and the life he was given; he never took a thing for granted. He was also a Super Fan of the Yankees and could reel off stats and details that were accurate as well as passionate! He also loved food of all kinds and enjoyed sharing meals and holiday treats with his family and friends. He was a happy man and always gave more that he received. He was truly a blessing to those who were lucky enough to know and love him. May he rest in eternal peace. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 10am to 11am with the funeral mass at 11am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5635 Berkshire Valley Road, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. Interment will follow at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
