Asper, 102 years, of Green Pond, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. He was born on July 5, 1915 in Clifton, NJ to the late Sarah (nee Lutz) and the late Joseph A. Asper. Charles was a decorated war veteran proudly serving in the US Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He married Helen (nee Keeler) in 1939 and resided in Rutherford, NJ, later moving to Clifton, NJ where they raised their family. Charles was an accountant for many years with Ellcon National in Totowa, NJ. retiring in 1985. Upon his retirement Charles and Helen moved to Green Pond, NJ. where they resided until each of their passing. Charles was a lifelong community volunteer including Junior Achievement of New Jersey Advisor, Boy Scout leader, and an active member of the Clifton Midget League. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen in March 2017, his dear siblings Russell, Arnold, Viola (nee Secker), Richard and his loving son-in-law Edward Horn. Charles is survived by his loving children Arlene O’Connor and her husband Dave, Douglas Asper and his wife Barbra, and Susan Horn; his cherished grandchildren Tim O’Connor and his wife Suzanne, Craig O’Connor and his wife Lisa, David O’Connor and his wife Leslie, Meredith Huegel and her husband Christopher, and Bethany Irving and her husband Patrick; his 12 adored great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 9am at St. Simon the Apostle RC Church, 1010 Green Pond Road, Newfoundland, NJ 07435. Immediately following the funeral mass, Charles will be interred beside his wife in East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton, NJ.
