GERALD DAVENPORT

Gerald D. Davenport, 72, of Stockholm, NJ, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013. He was born in Oak Ridge, NJ to Mildred (nee Talmadge) and Harry Davenport. Gerald married Amelia (nee Dunay) in October 1963 and together they raised their family in Stockholm, NJ. He was employed with the City of Newark Watershed and retired April 1, 1992 after 35 years of service. Mr. Davenport was a parishioner of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge. He will best be remembered for being an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his horse in his younger days. He prided himself on his knowledge of history facts and figures. He was Mr. Fix-It who always had a tool in his hand or was searching for one. He enjoyed reading books, watching movies, and staying current with governmental conspiracies and the latest news. Those closest to him knew his soft side and how much he cared for his little kitty named Princess and how much he adored his beautiful hibiscus flowers and the park-like gardens maintained at home by his loving wife. Mr. Davenport was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Lawson Davenport, and his sister Florence Vandermark. He is survived by his beloved wife Amelia, his loving daughter Christine Amelia Strube and her husband James, Jr. and their children Kaitlynn and James Strube III of Wantage, loving daughter Bernadine Davenport-Smith and her husband Major General Michael Smith, and their children Daniel and Corinne Davenport, Robert, Brian, and Michael Smith all of Randolph, and Jennifer Angerami and her husband John of Morristown, his loving son Timothy Davenport and his wife Kimberly and their children Tim and Ashley Davenport of Vernon, and his loving son Richard Davenport and his wife Liz of Oak Ridge and their golden retrievers Abbey and Moose. He also leaves behind his dear sister Lois Cooper and her husband Roger of Shohola, PA, his special friends Angela and Tommy Catania, and their children Matthew, Anthony, and Mark of Vernon, NJ, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 LaRue Road, Newfoundland, NJ 07435 (GPS use 1 Post Place). The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10am at the funeral home.
