WALLIS (SKEETS) STURTEVANT

Wallis “Skeets” Hall Sturtevant III, age 70, of Oak Ridge, NJ , passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born on January 11, 1947 in Hackensack, NJ to the late Doris Helen (Brule) and the late Wallis Hall Sturtevant, Jr. Skeets proudly served in the US Air Force from 1967-1970, stationed in Greece and Japan. He married Cynthia (Shepherd) in 1973 and resided in Newark, NJ later moving to Jefferson Township where they raised their family. Skeets attended Brevard College where he received his Associates Degree , and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree at the Newark College of Engineering as well as numerous computer certifications throughout his career. He worked as an Industrial engineer at several pharmaceutical companies before transitioning to computer consulting and teaching. Since 1979 he was an active member of the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge, NJ. Skeets volunteered his time as a youth group leader, and was an active member of the White Rock Lake Association, as well as a soccer and basketball coach. He enjoyed playing his guitar and ping-pong, photography, the outdoors, especially camping and canoeing, soccer, bowling, swimming, and golfing, but most of all he loved to make people laugh. Skeets is survived by his beloved wife Cindy, his loving children Chrissy Whitehead and her husband Eric of Hampton, NJ, Lauren Geaney and her husband John of Frankford, NJ, and Brian Sturtevant and his wife Jennifer of Harrisburg, PA; his cherished grandchildren Jillian and Sam Whitehead of Hampton, NJ, Jack and Lily Geaney of Frankford, NJ and Siena Sturtevant of Harrisburg, PA; his dear sister Barbara Sturtevant of St. Petersburg, FL, his dear brothers-in-law David Shepherd and his wife Dee of Wantage, NJ, and Terry Shepherd of Montague, NJ; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 La Rue Road, Newfoundland, NJ 07435 (GPS use 1 Post Place). The funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11am at The Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, 321 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. Immediately following the church service he will be interred at The Oak Ridge Presbyterian Cemetery, located behind the church.
