Cleaver, 82 years, of Oak Ridge, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Newton Medical Center. She was born on June 8, 1943 in Paterson, NJ to the late Margaret (nee Post) Whritenour and the late Cyrus Whritenour. Betty Jane married Donald Cleaver, the love of her life, in 1962. In August they would have celebrated 64 years together. Her family were devoted parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church in West Milford, NJ. She volunteered for more than 30 years as an Emergency Medical Technician; an active life time member of the Milton First Aid Squad, where she held various offices, including Captain. She held multiple positions within the Twelfth District of the EMS Council of New Jersey / New Jersey State First Aid Council. Betty Jane was a former member of the Jefferson Twp. Fire Company #1 Ladies Auxiliary. She also volunteered her time as Chaplain for the local emergency services. Betty Jane will best be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She was predeceased by her dear parents Margaret and Cyrus Whritenour; her loving aunt and lifelong best friend Julia Vreeland; and adored twin great granddaughters Cecilia and Leia Gruber. Betty Jane is survived by her beloved husband Donald Cleaver; her loving children Elizabeth Cochenour, David Cleaver and his wife Monique, Bill Cleaver and his wife Tammy, Diana Gliganic and her husband Chris, and Jennifer Johnson and her husband Antonio Duran; her cherished grandchildren Melissa Cochenour, Erica Santeramo; Matthew, Thomas, and Emily Cleaver; Daniel and Jeffrey Cleaver; Samantha Gruber; and Raelyn and Logan Duran; her adored great grandchildren Joseph ”JJ” Santeramo and Aofia Santeramo; as well as many nephews. The family will receive visitors on Friday: February 6, 2026 from 2-4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 La Rue Road, Newfoundland, NJ 07435. The prayer service will take place on Saturday: February 7, 2026 at 10am at the funeral home, followed by the entombment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Mausoleum), 174 North Church Road, Franklin, NJ 07416.
