STASIA WARGO

Stasia Wargo, 95, of Oak Ridge, NJ, passed away at her home with her family by her side on Monday, December 26, 2016. She was born in 1921 in the small, coal mining patch called the Vulcan, in Mahanoy City, PA. A child of the Great Depression, throughout her life she displayed a strength and quiet resolve to accomplish what was necessary. Working full-time, often 7-days a week, managing a household, raising a family, cooking delicious meals, and still finding time to take walks and exercise…. it was a life well-lived. Stasia married Joseph Wargo in 1941. They moved to New Jersey, first to Garfield, where she worked as a loom operator in a wool factory. Later the family moved to Riverdale, NJ where she worked with her husband in their business, Joe’s Deli. In 1959 the family moved to the Milton section of Oak Ridge, later taking ownership of another deli (also called Joe’s Deli), and then opening a Western Auto store. She finished her working career as a sales associate at Bamberger’s (now Macy’s) in the Rockaway Townsquare Mall. In Garfield she attended Holy Name Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church in Oak Ridge, NJ where she had served as a Eucharist Minister. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph in 1990 and her dear sisters Mary, Josephine, Helen, Sophia, and Anne and her loving brothers Frank and Edward. Stasia is survived by her dear sister Rose Ostaszewski; her loving children Joseph Wargo and his wife Grace, Alice Langdon, Edward Wargo and his wife Donna, John Wargo, and Mary Wargo; her cherished grandchildren Joseph Wargo and his wife Iris, James Wargo and his wife Karen, David Langdon, Jason Langdon and his wife Kathy, Jonathan Wargo and his wife Jessica, and Kathy O’Leary and her husband Tom; her adored great grandchildren Bianca Wargo, Joseph O’Leary, Kaitlyn and Ryan Wargo, Benjamin and William Langdon, Bryan Rolstad, and Justin and Charles Washington; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 11am to 11:30am followed by a funeral mass at 11:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church, 5635 Berkshire Valley Road, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. Immediately following the funeral mass she will be interred in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
